JAMCCAR/Spring Valley Cricket Team
The cricket team was established in approximately 1986 by Lenny Rowe (who passed away in 2014), and for the first eight years was known as the “Spring Valley Cricket Club.” In about 1995, the team was incorporated into the JAMCCAR’s fold and became the “The JAMCCAR Cricket Club.” With funding support from Hon. Allan Thompson, who was then Mayor of Spring Valley, the Village’s Memorial Park was refurbished, a cricket pitch was dedicated and all necessary equipment (matting, pitch roller, stumps, pads, balls, gloves, etc.) was donated by the Village of Spring Valley. Mayor Allan Thompson was instrumental in the success of the cricket team by providing moral and financial support during its early years.
After the death of the Hon. Kay Baxter, Jamaica’s Consul General to New York in 1998, the cricket match which is played during the week of JAMCCAR’s Jamaican Independence Celebrations was named “The Kay Baxter Memorial Cricket Match” in her honor.
